Red Tape Brewery
From Sarabeth: Red Tape Brewery is going to do an amber ale with King Cole tea. When we lived in New Brunswick, my mum would send a box of King Cole tea to my grandfather in Nunavut. The same box would come back a few months later stuffed with nikku (dried caribou meat) which is my all time favourite food.
We took some time to think about who we would donate to, and we’ve decided on a women’s shelter in Bathurst, NB. The region has several Mi’kmaq communities, and the shelter has Indigenous outreach programs. I know some people who have stayed at this shelter and describe the supports in such positive ways. As part of our ingredients are coming from New Brunswick, I felt that giving back to a small community there who likely has seen an increase in violence against women during the pandemic would be good as they don’t have as large of a pool of donors as we do in larger centres to support their increased need.”

We are going to have to make up our minds whether we are going to keep the Indian bottled up in a sort of Canadian apartheid or whether we are going to let him become a good citizen.
